It's OK to be alive

A page in the diary "If I was God"
Written by surfer Saturday, 4 July 2009 13:44

I have often wished this rotten cancer I have would get a move on, so it would all be over.

But, today I walked on the beach. I hadn't been there for months. The sun was warm in a cloudless blue sky - as blue as I have ever seen it. The big ocean was quiet giving the board riders little to catch on to. And it is school holidays so the beach was entertaining lots of children.

Their play, their laughs, were an anti-depressant tonic, mixed in with the comforting warmth of the sun.

"Yeah," I thought, "It's OK to be alive."

Peter

Now, it's been a long time since I put some of my awful jokes in a diary. (You have been warned - they are awful)

Q. What did the hat say to the scarf?
A. You hang around while I go on ahead.

Q. What happened to the guy who didn't know the difference between putty and toothpaste?
A. All his windows fell out.

sorry......

We want you here. I'm glad you found some harmony today.

Don't be sorry. If you do something dreadful (which you didn't) then by all means apologise.

Take care.

Hey Peter

You at least get to blame any corny jokes on the bon bons you had at your Yulefest dinner... what about me... what do I blame, I'm simply tragic with some things, lol

Your experience of the profound truth witnessed by watching children at play is beautiful and a reminder to us all that we can play too or at least be a witness.

As you know I live far from the beach now after once being able to avail myself of its restorative powers daily.

Enjoy where you are and if the playful arises in you and your inner child wants to lark about like those children so easily and naturally did... kick of your shoes and dig your toes into the sand and breaking surf and if you'd ever be so kind in such a private moment happen to think of others... I'd appreciate a vicarious dip in that sand and water myself, so have one for me too!

You're a living treasure Peter... all we have is our current present moment... be at peace in each one.

I am happy to know you are still getting the enjoyment from the sea that you always seem to have had.

Yes on some days it is OK to be alive, these days are my treasures.

Thinking of you and the wonderful Robin

kindest regards

Liz
