Patient groups

You are not alone! There are  help lines and support groups who can help you through this time.

Contact is important

Contact with others is extremely important. Sometimes it is easier to talk to someone on the telephone who

 • does not judge
 • is not a "know-it-all"
 • has had similar experiences
 • does not give unhelpful advice like "you just need to
take a walk and get some fresh air".

Some of the contacts available in Australia include:

 • Lifeline - 13 11 14

 • Suicide Help Victoria 1300 651 251

 • Men's Line Australia - 1300 78 99 78

 • Ambulance/Police - 000

 • Salvo Crisis Line (suicide prevention) - 02 9331 2000

 • Salvo Care Line - (02) 9331 6000

 • Kids Help Line - 1800 55 1800

Although online help and support is very useful on sites such as this, it is also important to have outside or 'face-to-face' help, especially when you are in crisis.

Check your local telephone directory or ask your doctor to suggest a relevant support groups or organisations in your area.
