You're not alone!
It's always nice to feel that you're not alone in the world.
While it's not always comforting to know that there are plenty of other people who feel the same way as you do, it helps to get rid of:
- The taboo that surrounds the illness.
- The emotional pain.
- Guilt over not being adequate.
If you suffer from depression you will no doubt be familiar with all three. Perhaps you think:
- "The world expects me to function, but I CAN'T"
Network?
Your network is very important. It is vital that you can talk freely to someone who:
- Doesn't judge
- Doesn't claim to have all the answers
- Has been through the same thing
- Doesn't try to minimise the problem, e.g. say, "Go and buy yourself something nice to cheer yourself up."
There ARE NO easy solutions. Being allowed to talk about the pain and helplessness gives you a safety valve that you can use in your darkest hours.
Remember there are always someone to talk to, whether it is over the phone, on the internet, your doctor or a friend/ family member. Help is available.
