About DepNet
Depnet
Depnet is an interactive depression website providing information and support for people with depression. Depnet aims to assist in improving the everyday life of people affected by depression.
Depnet was initiated and launched in Denmark by the Lundbeck Institute in 2001. Australia was the first subsidiary outside Denmark to launch a localised Depnet website, this was achieved in 2002.
The localisation process for the Australian site included input from a local patient, a GP with a special interest in mental health issues, a psychologist and a psychiatrist to ensure relevance for Australia.
The site offers an intimate yet thorough look at depression. It points to available community resources and helplines. Depnet is a uniquely interactive site which has an interactive community of users.
Users on Depnet are able to keep a diary to help track their depression and share their experiences with others. They are also able to enroll in the recovery program which is aimed at helping them understand and comply with their prescribed treatment. They are able to monitor their symptoms with weekly Zung tests and are encouraged towards achieving wellness by reading tips and information pieces about depression. In addition, users can interact via the chat room or the debate area, as well as submit their stories, poetry or artwork to the Depnet Community.
Depnet aims to bring users out of isolation to a place where they feel supported and accepted. Depnet also has a panel of Australian doctors (GP's and psychiatrists) who answer questions users submit to the letterbox. This aims to provide information and support to people in their individual battle with depression.
Depnet is for:
People who suffer from depression, their family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances, anyone who is interested in learning more about depression including General Practitioners, Psychiatrists, Psychologists and other health care providers.
