Subject: Diagnosed
Hey depnet, it has been a little more than a year since i registered and in desperate means contacted you as i didnt understand who i was and what was happening to me. I had no idea what depression was, what mental illnesses meant...i was clueless.
You replied to my desperate call - telling me to immediatley seek proffessional help. Unfortunatly at the time i was confused and shocked at the reply. I was a wreck, selfharming and purging behaviours, isolation and suicidal fantasies.
Fortunalty a day before my own planned end to my own life,a family member came across various things in my room. The rest if the story is long, but fast.
I was diagnosed with Severe Clinical Depression and spent 5 months in hospital starting medications and for my safety.
I cannot express how much i have been through! The pain and suffereing - BUT after a year it has brought me closer to the family i thought i had lost forever. I no longer selfharm as much as i did, and i begin to understand the impact and pain it is to others to watch mental illness take hold of a person.
I have lost 2 dear friends on my journey, to depression, my advice to others is just to stand tall and NEVER underestimate the power of hope.
Depnet, thankyou for playing your part in my life and to many others, it is still painfull and hard to cope with this illness, but its sites like this that render that hope that sits out there for us to reach out to.
