A lot of stuff over a 6 month period

Gosh it's been too long since I last wrote in here, I can't believe its practically been 6 months!!~

For a 6 month period, a lot of things happened. I managed to complete the 2nd semester of my studies and I got high passes for both subjects I did. As far as I know, I only failed one small assessment which was only worth 10%, so that's an improvement for me as far as pass rate goes.

After the 2nd semester last year I also went on a holiday overseas for the first time since I was 2 years old. Went with my mother to Macau because we have family there. It was nice to meet my extended family for what seems like the first time (since I don't remember meeting them as a 2 year old). It wasn't until we left the extended family members at the airport that I realised how significant they are to me. I guess it was like that because all I've ever known as family was my parents and my brother, everyone else was either just friends or parents friends or brother's friends. And now to know more people that I can say I'm related to is very special.

Anyway, from Macau my mum and I also joined tour groups to Taipei, Beijing and Guang Dong province. We also went to Hong Kong by ourselves. It was an awesome experience because I got to see first hand what Asia, in particular Chinese speaking areas are like. The only trouble I had was understanding the tour guides because they spoke Cantonese while I only speak English and Mandarin. Fortunately my mother understood what they were saying.

I've had a lot on my mind lately, mainly with regards to my studies and what I should study as well as my career. I've never had a job, so my career is all study so far. I want to get a job, but I don't want to work in the food or hospitality industry because I've helped out at food places before and didn't end up satisfying the employer.

I recently called up enquiring about a community support worker traineeship position. All I got was a booking into an information session which is tomorrow. so I guess whatever questions I have to ask I'll ask them then.

Great news about 1st semester exams results.

As for work, try to get some work experience in the area you are studying in. It helps you with your studies - have I made the right choice and gets you a foot in the door.

Do go to the session tomorrow and see if you have the skills to be able to apply for the community support worker. You will be surprised how your skills you have gained from previous work and uni can help you get a job.

Go A-leng!!!

PS Holiday sounds like it was just what you needed after last year and first semester of uni.

Dear a-leng

In your diaries you always write about positive steps you are making. You always try so hard - never give up. I find this inspirational.

Well done for getting through uni - I know how difficult that can be - but it really is assessment by assessment, unit by unit and bit by bit and gradually you chip away and honestly, one day you get close to the end and then you get there.

I found your comments on extended family interesting because, like you, I have never been physically close to extended family and have missed out in that way as well. I understand what you are saying and I'm really glad you got to meet them and bond.

With love, and admiration for you. Your diaries always inspire me. Your inner strength shines through.

Love from Kimberly
xoxo
