Feeling Ok

As part of the recovery program I am supposed to write about three things I have done this week to look after myself.

I drew a simple picture of a mother holding her young child. Even though it didn't take me that long to draw or come up with it, I felt like it's something that reflects a mother's love for her child.

I've also been to a number of workshops over the past week. I've been to a song writing workshop where we went for a walk to ger inspiration and from that wrote whatever came to mind. I participated in a digital film making workshop. Also went to the first of a few drama workshops where we played some games that allow us to develop acting skills.

I also went to join a group for young people with a mental illness. Didn't do much, it's like a social group so we pretty much introduced ourselves to the group and planned activities we could do as part of the group. I look forward to going to this group, I feel it'll be a good opportunity to meet others around my age with a mental illness.

Anyway, just thought I'd update on my situation with my studies. I've decided to go straight to uni because they gave me the option to start this coming semester, so i won't have to wait for half a year. Today I went to an orientation party thing that was happening on campus. I guess the main purpose for me to go there was to find my way around my new campus. Tomorrow I'll be going there again for my program specific information.

Dear A-leng

You are doing really well. It is great that you have done these things - the drawing to nurture yourself, the workshops to get you out and about exploring new things, and getting you to have fun and grow, and joining the group - to make new friends, enjoy other's company, and share your experiences with mental illness. You have really good coping skills - you inspire me.

Re decision to do uni - again - well done for making your decision, and from what you've written your reason for the decision sounds very sound and positive.

Congratulations, and thanks for such an inspiring post.

Love from Kimberly
xoxo

Aleng

Good for you. You achieved three things and that is good. You can achieve more but in baby steps. Well done.
