Getting easier

Hi Everyone,

Had to go to a party over the road last night for their combined 40th birthdays. Everything was supplied and on tap... beer, wine (red and white), champagne, tequila shots and vodka.

Hmmm, but you know what, I stuck to my non-alc apple cider and still had a good time (apart from having a rotten cold). They had a great band and my other neighbour even made me get up and dance. I'm not much of a dancer, never have been, but it was actually fun to get up there, which is weird because I was sober... would never usually dare to do anything like that.

My other neighbour was also great in that she said how pleased she was to see me off the booze. She knew I drank too much and I've also told her about my history of abuse, so she worries about me and she said I'm starting to blossom as a person and begining to shine. That made me feel like all the hard work of the last 6 weeks has been absolutely worth it. A pat on the back is definitely a great thing and we had a couple of hugs, which are always welcome.

Had a great day today... went to my "nice" brothers place (he lives in a caravan park) and went down to their BBQ area. My Mum and Dad came as well and my nice brother's daughter who is about to turn 15. We all had a lovely day (it was 22 and sunny in Adelaide today, just beautiful). When we got there Dad asked if I'd bought my scotch (yes, it runs in the family) because they'd left theirs at home and I just said no, so he went to the bottle shop and got some. They had a scotch and coke while I slurped down a can of coke and you know what, it was OK. I'm really getting the hang of this not drinking thing and I certainly was appreciative I didn't have a hangover on top of the cold when I woke up this morning.

I haven't told my Mum and Dad I've given up drinking, I don't know if it's because I'm not confident I'll stay off it, or if it's just that I don't want to admit to them that I have a problem. Guess I will tell them eventually, or they'll pick up on it at some stage and ask the question.

My husband and children treated me to pancakes this morning (after we'd slept in until 9.45, which is unheard of). My boys were busting to give me my presents... a new pair of earrings, a Josh Groban CD and DVD and a funny little bug key ring thingy that my youngest son, 7 made at school. Oldest son 9 gave me a card with vouchers in it (left blank) so I can get him to do me favours). Will have to think of a few beauties to make the most of that! It's those sorts of things that really make Mum's day and I put the bug on my key ring straight away - 7yo was chuffed to say the least. It's about 3" square so it will definitely be easy to find my keys in the bottom of my handbag LOL!

Anyway, I hope all you Mum's, Grandmum's, and hopefully some great Grandmum's all had a lovely day.

Cheers,

Fly

PARTY ANIMAL......

My goodness Fly, another victory for you. Good on you girl.I am so proud of you yet again. Glad to hear that the party was such a success. The dancing part was fun though, wasn't it? A great way to let your hair down. The BBQ at your brothers sounded great to, and again another pat on the back.
Glad to hear Mums day went so well and those hand made gifts are so special.I'm a single parent and I still have my daughters handprint on a mens hankie, I got for Dads day over 10yrs ago, never used of course. Kids can do the sweetest things to make us Mums feel great and Im glad your family showed you how much youre loved.
Keep up the great work Fly, we are all proud of you.
Love Lesley xxx

Fly

Wow you did really well at the party and the bbq.

Good for you!!! I hope you are proud of yourself for what you achieved - no drinking at either event and fun times with your neighbours. Sounds like the party was a good night. Great to read that your neighbour is seeing you blossom. That is a great compliement.

You will tell your family about your non drinking when you are ready/feel it is time to tell them. Just remember they may not understand what you have done or realise it is a problem for them/caused you problems.

Go Fly!!!
