Hello everyone. I am making an entry after around three weeks. Was just feeling up and down during this period. I just want to know from people here that as depression ruins you completely such as your habits, the way you talk as your confidence is so low and your selfesteem and even your smaller habits, behavior, can we change them in any age group or they become so rigid that it is impossible. People here are of various ages and they know how to make changes in personality and behavior. I just want to know is it possible after thirty, forty and twenty. I want to change but I feel powerless to even start. Please guide me. Thankyou so much.

I believe we can change with appropriate expectations, it is possible. As you may be aware, it is going to take some time, a gradual journey.

If you have been suffering from depression you may be aware of Cognitive Behaviourial Therapy, this may help you. It can help you identify any thoughts process that may be hindering your progress to better thoughts about oneself.

The habits we have gathered up through the years may undoubtfully continue to undermine our self-confidence and self-esteem but this doesn't have to be perpetuated.

I have realised, being depressed for so long that when a unpleasant thought or feeling or sensation comes along, I sense/think whether consciously or not, I am doomed and all hell will break loose with another depression cloud ready to encapsulate me. I am planning to try mindfulness. I know this may not be for everyone. If there is unresolved childhood issues or truama it may not be the way to go.

The hardest part of this journey and I am struggling with is to value and accept myself.

Omar

Jupiter is right. Using CBT you change your thought process from negative to positive thoughts and you can do that at any age and with the help of a suitably qualified psychiatrist/psychologist. They need the training in CBT to pass it onto you.

Go Omar!!!

HI omar,A very good questioning diary entry.Having suffered PTSD for a long long . l don,t think it will ever go away, as there is always certain things in life that will rear its ugly head and bang here we go again . l really do believe that however that as l have got older l deal with certain issues a lot better than l used to l don,t no if it is because l get so sick of certain situations and it makes me fight it, or makes me angry then stronger.l think there is a big difference in traumatic depression and curcumstantial depression.l have accepted the way l am and just try and get on with it ,just taking day by day and really enjoying the happy days when they come around. Wishing you some happiness take care
