Feel Good...

A page in the diary "Meandering Thoughts"

My cat makes me feel good... i love to pat and hug him even though he doesn't want to be hugged and patted... he likes to be fed... and I like to handfeed him... he was born without back teeth and therefore the vet said he needs small bitesize pieces of meat... which i duly cut up for him... he seemed to lick his food so i took to holding it... and voila he became handfed...

He is a gentle cat... and he has the sweetest nature... when he first came he loved being hugged... but that didn't last... I think it is me... none of my cats liked being picked up and hugged... they all fought to be put down... my cat is called Augustus... but I call him Gus for short... Gus loves to come and rub up against my leg... usually so he can lure me into letting him out the front door... but at night he is an inside cat... and sometimes during the day he stays inside with me...

At the moment a stray cat I have called SkinnyLatte has come to visit sometimes he stays for days... he is a bit of a bully towards Gus... eating Gus's food... I do feed Skinny a bit of food as I hate to see an animal starve... so I know I am at fault in feeding Skinny... but...

I always try to make Gus feel he is King Cat in the house and that Skinny comes second to Gus... whether I succeed I don't know...

well that is who makes me feel good...

take care

Hi Cate,

Cat's are just great aren't they. I have 2 Russian Blue's and they're very sweet and make me feel better. If I'm lying in bed sick or depressed they're always there, they seem to know something is wrong.

I'm glad you have Gus and I just love the name Skinny Latte, that's gold. I too couldn't let a cat starve and would have to feed it too.

I just had to lock one of my cats (the older one who is 13) in my bedroom as my boys 9 & 7 have 2 friends over who have taken a particular liking to him and they won't leave the poor old boy alone, picking him up and chasing him. I couldn't stand it anymore so he's been locked away and I told the boys he went outside and to go try and find him!! Hope they don't find the other cat, she'll definitely give them a scratch, but the older one is so gentile and docile and will put up with anything.

Reading your post put a smile on my face, from one fellow cat lover to another,

Cate

Thanks for the information in my diary. I will still speak to my psychiatrist about it.

Animals are very important in getting people well/feeling involved in their care. You are lucky to have the two cats to care for and love. The nursing home that my grandmother was in had a cat and the poor thing ended up copping her cane as she didn't like cats and then when she would come to our place she was on her tip toes because of the dogs - didn't like them.

My 105 year old granny had cats and was quite happy with peoples dogs because they had dogs on their farm. My cousins dog would stay with her and she wouldn't mind at all. She liked our dogs and would feed them.

My sister has said to me I should get a dog to care for/exercise after the court case - wait and see what happens with it.

I love the story of kindness to animals and you are doing that with the stray and gus. Have to make sure Gus is king of the house.

Lovely diary entry!!!

Go Cate!!!

Hi Cate,

I loved this diary entry, it gives us a little insight in to you.

I also have 2 cats, the eldest being "Atlanta Georgia", and before you ask, no, i didn't name her. I adopted her from my niece when she was 2 yrs old, but the name grows on you after a while.
The other is a 5 mnth old kitten called Spary, he was found under the bonnet of a car and handed into my vet's surgery to check him out. They were calling him Spark Plug so we shortened it. Isn't it funny how they get their names.

Anyway Cate, thank you for sharing your cats with us, it is nice to have a light hearted diary entry.

Take care,

Nouse

I'd love to see a pic of the cats in the Gallery! I am going to submit a photo of my Harley-cat shortly.
Keep reassuring Gus that he is the "king" and it's lovely of you to give a little bit of food to SkinnyLatte!

Hey Cate
Thanks for your comments on my last diary entry, it really helped at the time and still does. I too am a cat lover, and agree with you, it's almost as if they sense when you are feeling down and are there for some cheering up. Our cats name is Champus. He is a people loving Burmese, who puts up with my 3 1/2 year old chasing and preying on him most of the time that he is inside!!!! Hope you are doing well, take care of yourself, Kindest Regards, From Riles
