some ideas about where to live

A page in the diary "Meandering Thoughts"

well today produced an interesting concoction of ideas in my quest for a place to live...

the word 'new' comes to mind after i reflected on the places that surfaced ... new york... newfoundland... new zealand... new orleans... any place in the world that had the word new preceding it... i dismissed new orleans as too hot... and all other options but the three i favoured first i then ventured on an internet search of their access in terms of immigration... i am faced with a dilemma... why is there a need for points... and skills... why can i not just go and live there... why do i need to prove i am a suitable candidate... and can offer the economy of said places a financial boon by allowing me to live there instead of being a financial burden on the taxpayers

i told my sister i wanted to go and live in new zealand or newfoundland and she dismissed the idea from consideration as they are too far away to care for me... but australia is too far away for my family to care for me except in an occasional manner from time to time as i demand... they have busy lives... they do care and keep in sort of contact...

new york i have an elderly step mother ... my sister said if i went there i might have to look after her not the other way around... but that might not be a bad thing or maybe it would be... i like new york... i would like to live there... as long as i didn't have to walk a lot... there is the social life... but then there is the money and the exchange rate... and the medical system...

new zealand is nice and cold... i like the south island... i am not sure where on the south island... south deep south... maybe i could buy a house there... maybe i could retire there...

newfoundland has some enticing elements too... i love the weather... snow and cold... and good arts program... supportive of the arts... that has to be a good thing... but the negative is the need to speak french as well as english... and even after 6 years of studying the damn french language i am still illiterate and unable to speak or understand a word... another negative ... the damn points for entry...

and the main question in all of this is... Can Gus come too?

Well... to move to the New ... somewhere... maybe newport... in which country... do i go to england... or victoria or rhode island... maybe somewhere 'nouveau'... yay french...

the dilemma remains... and the google search remains a search...

take care

I admire you for even contemplating packing up and moving overseas. If I ever migrated, it would be to somewhere in Europe, maybe sweden... Good luck with your search.

Hi again cate,

I'm not into hot weather either. It's a bit like tassie weather here. But can get up to 40 in summer. I find it mostly bearable with the air conditioner on.
Winters can be cold but not freezing. It's a good spot,
an hour to beach, city and snow.

TC,

Lori
