Identity fraud is so cruel to those who are victimised by it... one day you are living your life happy as a pig in mud then the next you are not able to buy things, your driver's licence is no longer valid, the police are after you... you have a criminal record in a name that is not yours... your friends deny you exist
so bizarre... and maybe a bit far fetched but bits of it happen... that is why it is so important you keep your real identity secret revealing only to ppl you have determined are trustworthy...
my leap is that depression is like an identity thief... you walk along oblivious to the fact that you are now snappy no longer easy going ... you sigh a lot and feel exasperated with even the most timid of ppl... they all annoy you... you no longer smile often... you look in the mirror and the person staring back is a stranger... lips drawn tight together a frown etched into your brow... once you used to be able to make decisions about the most basic of things right up to the most complex situation... this all happens behind your back... you struggle with the day to day... friends ... family ... you think you are managing life well... suddenly someone says... NO! who do you think you are? ... you do not belong here anymore... go away... we do not acknowledge your existence... you do not exist... you are depressed... your new identity ... a criminal record of poor behaviour... someone who is stigmatised by mental illness...
