Back Pain Relief

After years of steadily increasing back pain post accident, and after exhausting all other avenues, including 'pilates' for the last six months, I insisted on an MRI. It showed spinal stenosis and arthritis which affect my left side, and for the last year it's gotten so bad that I hardly sleep.

The neurosurgeon I saw said surgery would only relieve the pain down my leg, but not the lower back. So, according to him I wasn't a good candidate for surgery. I was pretty pissed off as I thought surgery would finally give me relief.

In desperation I searched the net and found a site called 'losethebackpain.com' that discussed the push/pull of muscle imbalances which they say are the underlying cause of most back/sciatic/neck pain. There were stacks of testimonials (which could be all fake), and for a minimal cost (now there's the rub) I would get an exercise program targeting my specific problem. They quoted a medical journal which said that most back pain wasn't caused by herniated/bulging discs etc. I checked it out and it was on the level.

Well, I was going back to my physio (which costs an arm at least) so I thought, 'What the heck, I'll give it a go'. Turns out I have a high hip on the left side, and a forward tilt pelvis, and after just the first time I did the exercises that only work the muscles involved, I felt some relief. I thought, 'No way, it must be a coincidence or placebo effect'.

It's been over a week now, and I've continued to improve (now that's some placebo). Right from the first day, I haven't had much pain at night, and have now ditched the pillows I used to support my leg.

I can't believe that none of the medico's I saw over the years even suggested muscle imbalances. It makes me think they just want to keep the 'gravy train' rollin' along (hell, they got plenty out of me, that's for sure).

I hope my experience can help some of you who endure back pain. After all, I've suffered for sixteen friggin' years, and the remedy was so simple it's blown me away.
Cheers

Geo I am so happy for you. Pain is the most disabling of all and now you have some releif, celebrate!

Over the last few years it has been my experience that Drs, specialists in particular, do not offer a wholistic approach to our care. You are an eye, ear, leg, spine etc but combining these things to get some solution to the pain etc seems unheard of!

I recently have found release through a pysio and a podiatrist who work together, see patients together etc. I have had knee pain all my life (too much basketball volley ball as a younger person) and also a very unstable left ankle. I have had surgery a few times, put ina cask a few times drugs xrays, MRIs. Last week I saw these guys in Macquarie street Sydney and they quickly and efficently did an assesment. They told me one leg was signifficnatly shorter (almost3 cms) than the other and oh by the way did i know my big toe was broken and another break in some smaller bone?

I am now on some strengthening excercises, awaiting new orthotics and getting a build up for my shoes to equal the discrepency. The only Dr involved took the xrays and commented on them.

Bloody miracle I say!

Hope it all goes well for you and your releif from such a long time of pain remains with you.

Take care

Liz

Well done Geo - i'm glad you have finally found some relief.

You know why the Doctors don't tell patients about muscle imbalances or energy imbalances in the body? Because they would lose most of their business - the business of getting rich from sick people, that is!

I get relief from Chiropractic - actually i go to my Chiro even if I have a sore throat or other problems. He seems to know just what to do and I leave feeling well, pain free and relaxed. Another important tip for pain relief - drink 8 glasses of water a day.

Take care and stay well

Geo

I was about to suggest a chiropractor for the back pain and given your results sounds like it is a real find so well done, given that any pain is difficult to deal with.

Go Geo!!!

Thx for your comments guys, and that's great Liz, you really have to shop around, but you shouldn't have too eh! I found chiropractic only gave me minimal relief, but I reckon a combo of both would be even better.
Yeah, it's the 'gravy train' for sure, after all, they're not stupid......
