Firstly hi everyone! I havent been here for a while.
I have being seeing a psychologist which has helped me deal with the horrors that is dep. Well more than dep it turns out I am suffering from PTSD from my last job. Full on hey? I have been doing ok, but lately though I have been struggling.

Anyway, here is my question..... I have started a new job that is ok and has the potential to lead to better things. But right now I am not earning enough and will have to cancell an OS trip. My options as I see them are; stay home, work as much as I can and eventually get a good position. Or; Quit the job, take up a casual position at my old employer (dif job though, fairly secure position too) and have my holiday. Or; quit my job, work at the other one, rent my house out and move OS for a few months.

I have been struggling to decide. they all have thier pros and cons. I'd love to know, what would you do??

Well you are all right, yup gyps a bum kick is perhaps needed! I am so desp for change I was going to go back to the beginning to start again.

The hands on job is wonderful, but the organisation is horrid.

I have decided to work where I am and pick the odd shift up at the horrid place. I need the $$$. however I am stronger now and will only give them one chance, if they mess me around even once I am gone.
I have decided to move (run?) away in a couple of months. not sure if this is right either but allthough it is a HUGE risk, I am going to take it. If money gets too tight and I look like loosing my house then I will come back. But I am going to do it. Well I think I am anyway..

Do not whatever you decide go back to your former employer if you have ptsd from working there. I know what it is like to have work troubles/ptsd from work and I think if you went back, it would make you feel worse healthwise.

Why don't you reschedule your holiday and stay with the job you are currently with - you say it has potential for things - better to find out what they are than go back to the toxic workplace that caused your ptsd.

Hope that helps.

Well, to put oneself back into a situation which has cause PTSD would be a very bad move. My opinion only,
All the best.

Don't travel a path you've already trodden...

All the best,

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I would be going back to the same company but in a totally different role, one I did for 5 years and was fine....

Depends on what the old job was & the cause of the PTSD.....

If u were a bank teller & there was a hold-up, that could cause PTSD, but u may infact need to return to get over the trauma.

So it really depends, what actually happened to cause the PTSD???

I worked for the government in the health care industry. I think they made me do too much too young with no guidance or support. I mean I went through a lot in my job, but it was ok really because I usually had good colleagues. Then I became a manager and it all went to hell. I was over worked, manipulated, bullied and harrassed from every angle. I couldnt even bring myself to answer the phone some days. I'd throw up in the mornings, cry all the way to work then think of reasons to leave early. It was hell.... But I would go back to the more hands on approach, which does affect my health but I would stay casual and more in controll of what and where I work...

But it still affects yr health...
Y r u even bothering to try to overcome your depression if your thinking of going bac to something u know will affect u in a negative way?
Onwards & upwards NOT backwards & downwards...
Else a kick up the bum???
