Migraine, meds and no sleep until hubby got up - two hours of coughing fits after I took my migraine meds. Not pleasant at all and I don't know how hubby sleeps through it.

Woke up and had some lunch and hubby wasn't here - don't know where he went - found out when I saw him he did some grocery shopping. I thought he might have gone to the funeral but he didn't.

I was finding reading the diaries quite interesting until I came across one about true or not and the replies that were left. Felt the diary and replies were aimed at me because I cannot work as my psychiatrist won't give me the ok to work/study. Believe me I know that some of the diaries may be stretched a bit but I know mine is true and that is the important thing. If other's don't believe me that is their loss. I know what my psychiatrist has said to me and that is the important thing. No justification. Yes people can get up and cope with working and balancing a mental illness - I was doing that before I lost my job of almost 23 years but at the moment I am not well enough to work and people need to accept the truth about my health and stop insinuating I am stretching the truth to be comfortable in a coocoon/on dsp. I want to get off dsp asap but it is hard when you cannot get an answer as to when you are able to work/study from your psychiatrist and you are suffering from daily chronic migraines. Anyway who said it matters if a diary is real or fake. People write for different reasons - share their day, how they are coping and the like. None of us are specialists to tell what is real or fake so leave the question alone because some people will take it as a personal attack on them and I am sure that is not what the diary or comments meant. The comments don't know about people's situations and again deppies are in no position to judge a person for being right or wrong/real or fake. Who knows if diary comments are real or fake or just put there for people to get replies to their diaries.

Hubby has gone to work and then will be taking his parents to their activity day on Sunday so he will go home on Sunday morning and take them to where they have to go and hopefully we will get to Myer to go shopping at the end of the sale as I need a new blender - one that takes ice.

Still sick as a dog. Coughing fits but luckily no vomitting with the coughing fits. Queen Bee said to go back to the doctor/have an xray but I will see how I feel on the weekend before I go to the doctor.

I went back to bed and watched tv and fell asleep - lack of sleep last night. Tried to keep warm and the only way I could do that was go to bed. Wish I could find my winter pj's.

Take Care All!!!

PS Another site is headspace.org.au - been a lot of advertising about it and it looks interesting. Another good site is SANE.org.au - it goes through the different illnesses and gives you fact sheets about them which you can print off and talk to your doctor about - I have used it several times and found it a great site.

PS Am up wide awake with migraine meds trying to kick in and reading diaries. Lesley, what are the symptoms of whooping cough??? How do they test for it???.

Sorry to hear that you still feel you have to explain to people. Hun you dont, so save yourself the stress and let it roll off your back.
I know this may sound silly but get a test done for Whooping Cough. My daughter had this persistant cough that would just about turn her inside out and had it for months. No sound of a hoop in it. After repeated trips to drs and hospital met a Dr, who tested her for that and that is what she had. We'd actually contracted it off her too.
Take care.

Mrs Studying,
Sorry you are still not well. Tell Mr Studying to look after you and pamper you with lots of cuddles - don't mind spreading the germs lol - hot cuppas and rest.
I agree with Les - I had a cough for ages with no hoop and went to the doctor because i had pains in my shoulder blades - Xray taken and was told I had Pluerisy and whooping cough.
Look after yourself - don't worry about the housework etc - you are sick and it can wait
With regards to having to explain to people about your situation - don't - No one's elses business - If you want to explain to certain people, then that is entirely up to you. No one can judge what you are going through unless they have expeirenced it.
Take care and rug up - don't forget to wear PJ's to bed lol

has it struck you that if people tell you to stay out of their diary that they find your comments so annoying that they feel like strangling you. they want you to . full stop.
at the rate things are going, no-one will be writing diaries but you, so they can avoid you jumping to conclusions that everything is about you.

studying1,

I know you asked Lesley but thought I would reply as one of my kids had whooping cough, and ended up in hospital with suspected pneumonia. Please be careful as it can get severe quite quickly.

What are the symptoms of whooping cough?
The symptoms of whooping cough commonly develop about 7 to 10 days after exposure to the bacteria, but can occur any time from a few days to a few weeks. Whooping cough usually runs a 6-week cycle in 3 stages, each lasting about 2 weeks. In some cases the cough may last up to 3 months.

The first (catarrh) stage
The first stage resembles the common cold, with a mild occasional cough, loss of appetite, runny nose, sneezing and possibly a slight fever. It is not common, however, for whooping cough to cause a fever. It is highly contagious at this stage, but difficult to diagnose, as whooping cough can be mistaken for bronchitis.

Nose and throat swabs that detect the pertussis bacteria will work only in the early stages of the disease. If your doctor suspects that your child has whooping cough because of the classic cough symptoms, they will take a swab and send it to the laboratory to make sure of the diagnosis.

Blood tests can also be done for pertussis, but these are not always reliable or easy to interpret, so they are not thought to provide a definitive diagnosis. However, a person who has a positive blood test and a 2-week history of a suspicious cough will be advised to have further testing.

The second (paroxysmal) stage
The second stage begins after 7 to 14 days. It is known as the paroxysmal stage due to the coughing spells. These coughing spells may produce plenty of mucus and the cough may finish with a loud whoop. Choking on the mucus can cause vomiting. Many young children diagnosed with whooping cough may not necessarily have the typical ‘whoop’. Children may turn red or blue during the coughing fits. The persistent coughing spells can cause a child to stop breathing temporarily. Complications such as pneumonia or middle ear infections are more likely to develop at this time.

The third (convalescent) stage
The third stage (convalescent) is when the coughing and vomiting starts to subside. Sometimes, the coughing can start again months later if the child develops an upper respiratory tract infection.

This is the info we were given when our child was in hospital. If you have one, use a vapouriser in your room ,or alternatively, steam up the bathroom and sit in there for about 20 minutes. Helps to clear the airways.

Take care and I hope you get better soon.
