My first trip to the beach
(without my sight)

Coast
Beach
Crash of waves
Sizzle and hiss of foam
Seagulls whinging
The swell

Cracks of laughter
Breaths held
Sharing tales
Shrieks of delight
Squelch on sand
Children

Seaweed
Sun block
Wax on surfboard
Lunch
Zinc cream

Gritty grainy pieces of sand
Rub the granules within my hands
Hugging wet bodies
With sand laden towels

Absorb the moment
For what it is
Let it wash over my senses
For beauty there is

I cannot see the sea
But,
I can hear, smell touch and feel.

Studying, most people who have followed my story in depnet know i am loosing my vision and it now almost gone - I use the computer via a text to speech programme called JAWS. Thisis the first time i have been to the beach, next time for a swim, since nearly all sight gone. I revelled in it this morning for the other 4 out of 5 senses were impacted

Liz,
You truly are an amazing woman
Believe that, for its simply true
Revel indeed in the fact your other senses are so highlighted
My best to you, always

Liz
You can hear, smell, touch and feel. And you can enjoy - that's wonderful.

Well, from whre I live, I don't ave to brave the car park, the sunburn, the bluebottles or the sharks..I can just read your poem and be right at the beach.
Thanks Liz, and all the best for 2008.

You are an inspiration.

Do not feel upset that you don't have your sight.

For i believe you see more than others. You see more than me. You see the beauty in this world that many people overlook.

God loves you and so do i.

Take care and keep strong.
You inspire me.

Debbie./
