Forgotten how it feels to be free

As I sat outside the hospital this afternoon following DBT group I was listening to my MP3 and this song came on, mind you I have heard it many times before but today it just so applied to me.

Its by Shane Howard, my most favourite of all Australian songwriters and has been recorded by Mary Black and some other accoustic hounds.

The first two stanzas are very very apt for me right now. This says it better than I can and right now my words are dried up, no more poetry or songs coming, I am just stuck. Trying to work it out and work through it.

Please enjoy

Warm regards all,

Liz

Give a Little (S. Howard)

Fighting for so long now you've forgotten
How not to be cynical
In a state of turmoil for so long now
You've forgotten
Forgotten how it feels to be free

Set in ways as hard as stone and full of anger
You don't want to listen to your dreams
Feeling like the purpose has deserted
Now you're waiting
Waiting aimlessly

You know you have to grab this moment
You know you have to seize this chance
Want to shake yourself
Wake up from this trance

Dwelling in some dark and lonely places
Forgotten how to trust yourself
Watching as these cast iron feelings weather
Now they're turning
Turning into dust

You know you have to grab this moment
You know you have to seize this chance
Want to shake yourself
Wake up from this trance

Give a little now, before it gets too late
Give a little now, everything can wait
Give a little now, hard enough getting by
Give a little now, easy when we try

Struggling for so long now you can't remember
Exactly how it feels to be free of fear
These visions haunt your every waking hour

You know you have to grab this moment
You know you have to seize this chance
Want to shake yourself
Wake up from this trance

Give a little now before it gets too late
Give a little now hungry strangers at the gate
Give a little now hard enough getting by
Give a little now
Come on try

Hi Liz,

I'm an old "Goana" fan, so love Shane Howard. I guess most of the "youngies" here wouldn't even know who he is hey!!

It makes me sad to read your feeling so empty at the moment, I wish there was something I could do. My psychologist has banned me from reading depressing books about abuse and from listening to depressing music (Missy Higgins, James Blunt, etc.). Maybe you could try listening to something more uplifting to try and help lift your spirits. I know that when you're depressed you WANT to listen to music that you can relate to, but how about you give something else a go and see how it makes you feel.

Don't spose you've got R-E-S-P-E-C-T by Aretha Franklin layin around the place, that song gives everyone a lift, or It's Raining Men by the Weathergirls (I know, to like that song is so stragic, but I just love it!)

Take care and hope to catch you on chat soon,

Luv Karen xxx

Hi Liz

Sorry to hear you are still feeling low.

I agree with Karen about playing some upbeat music - i like to jump around the loungeroom to Footloose or Flashdance! LOL

Picture this: - 100 kilos of pure woman, dancing around like jelly on a plate! lmao! Ahhh - who cares - no one is watching and it's makes me feel good and sometimes it good to be silly.

Take care dear lady - I am thinking of you.

Wishing you well
Dolly x
