I don't know how I am feeling. One day I can be so happy and on a high. Another day I am contemplating suicide.

I am not taking any medication as I have stopped taking anything all together. Mainly because it makes me feel sick and I don't want Chris and his family to think I am a loser becauase I need to take medication to help me feel better.

I feel like I can't win with or without medication. What do you guys think I should do?

Please help!

Go back on your meds. You have to do what's right for you and not everyone else and if meds is the way to go then use them. People are entitled to their opinion about medications but there is nothing wrong with taking them and I think you know that. Chris should be supporting you to take your meds not taking them to be someone you aren't because he is embarrassed to be with you with his family - says a lot about him.

Go Chrissy!!!

Hi Chris

It sounds like you are not in the best place to be making treatment decisions for yourself.

Its a big decision to stop a prescribed medicine, one should never do this without seeking help from your doc first.

One of the biggest myths about depression is that people worry that others are looking at them and thinking 'why don't they just pull up their socks and get on with life'. Most of the time, that is not what they're thinking, and if it is, they are misinformed about what depression is...

In my book, if you take control of your depression and be proactive in your treatment then you are a winner.

Why not talk to your doctor about this? Talk about your medicine and how it makes you feel, talk about other options. Let him (or her) guide you in making these treatment decisions. You are not alone.

Take care and please get that help soon.

if you are suffering mood swings, you may need a mood stabilizer (like lithium) to help. you dont need to be bipolar to get that kind of med. try talking to your doc about it. it has certainly made a difference to me. I take lithium and am not bipolar.

good luck in finding what works for you. it is a long hard battle, but you will get there in the end.

Dear Christine,

I know what you mean and I do understand your wish to come off meds. The question is: Did the meds help you? I would not worry about what people think about you. I'm with tank in this part – most of my friends who know about my depression and about the meds are just concerned and feel with me – they don't think I'm a loser, but I, I still think they think I am, and I think these thoughts are part of the sickness.

Anyway, why take meds if they don't help you? At least without meds you know that the moodswings are just your own stuff, uninfluenced by anything from outside.

But I would advice to see a doctor. Maybe a new one (don't know if you can choose your doc in Australia). Maybe there ARE meds that help you. I never understood why doctors describe heaps of different meds to one person. I have heard some stories about deppies who where on lots of different meds and felt much better after coming off them.

It all depends...think about your own wellbeing and not about what people think about you. That's the only advice I can give you.

Take care,
Luise.

Hi Christine,

I felt the same way about meds....but you know without them atm for me, I just know I need them for now and it doesnt mean forever... just for now.

Maybe the mood swings the highs and lows going on Meds will even your moods out some, just for now Darl. Think of it this way, if you had Diabetes, would you stop taking your insulin? Depression is like Diabetes in a sense that its a chemical that needs replacing sweetheart.

All the best, (((((hugs)))))

If you are feeling sick is it just when you start taking them? like the first 6 weeks or all the time? If it's all the time tell your GP and they will change them.

all the best :)

I think you need another consultation re medication, and I also think this is entirely your business, no-one elses, if they are not supportive, keep it to yourself.
Regards.
